Trade offs.Someone asked me what I thought I lacked.I told him I lacked whatever the world wanted or whatever the world measured as success. In other words,I lacked the grades, the success of a sportsman and able the idea of fitting in. Then he asked if I would trade what I have now for what I dont have.

What is more important, success and being the live of the party or being surrounded by people who really love you and accept you for who you are? What should our guage of success or happiness be in society today? Should it be society's measurement? After all, society is nobody to tell us how we should live our life. Over the years we have all become increasingly materialistic. I dont deny dreaming of the high life, dining in fine restaurants, getting the red carpet treatment everywhere I go, being dressed by Calvin Klein from head to toe, inside out. Being able to spend hours deciding which brand or suit I should wear for a date or to work. Zegna,Boss,DKNY?That is society's idea of success and doing well in life.Should it really be ours?I wonder. After all, is there really a point in having all of this when in actual fact one has nothing at all? After acheiving all these, will a person's only friends be Zegna,Boss or maybe the occassional Louis Voitton?

We all realise that society's system of measurement is as flawed as a diamond worth nuts.I definitely do.But that has done nothing to make us realise that real success does not mean bling bling and the bubbly. Its not just the tangible that makes success but the intangibles such as a heart of gold and the ability to love and to be compassionate. Others may recognise these traits in each of us and love us for that. But we are not satisfied. We want the tangibles.

Then again, let me ask, should this be a conflict?Or should be be a balance. But where is the balance? Can we really have everything in life? Its really up to us to find our own answers as we go about our own lives.I am still looking for the answers.Run along now and find yours kid...
